The Origin of Phrases

How often do we use a phrase without any knowledge of where it came from? In the recent movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets, there was a part of the movie where Nicolas Cage’s character gave the history behind the phrase “His Name is Mud”. I had been equally intrigued by the origins of symbols discussed in Dan Brown’s The DaVinci Code. So, on the theme of hidden meanings and origins of phrases I have come across an interesting site.

This site does an excellent job of finding the root of over 1,500 common phrases. From “Beck and Call” to “Zig Zag”, you’ll be entertained for hours (or bored to death, depending).
